What is Jellyfin?

Jellyfin is the engine underneath KoalaPaw: a free, open-source media server that turns your own hardware into a personal Netflix.

Your media, your hardware

With Jellyfin, your movies, TV shows, music, and photos live on hardware you own — a Raspberry Pi, an old laptop, a NAS, or a small rented box in the cloud — and stream from there to your TV, your phone, or your tablet. There's no cloud service in the middle, no account you don't control, and no monthly fee.

Getting started in four steps

1. Pick your hardware. Jellyfin runs happily on a Raspberry Pi, an old laptop you no longer use, a NAS, or a small rented server.
2. Install the Jellyfin server. It's free and open-source. Grab the installer for your device at jellyfin.org/downloads.
3. Add your media. Point Jellyfin at the folders where your movies, shows, and music live, and it organises them with artwork and descriptions automatically.
4. Open KoalaPaw on your TV and connect. Enter your server's address — or pair with a code from your phone — and your whole family is ready to watch.
